Findlay, Ohio - The University of Findlay women's lacrosse team delivered a dominant performance Friday, April 10, pulling away early and cruising to a 19-2 victory over Northwood to stay perfect in conference play. The Oilers improve to 7-6 overall with a 5-0 record in conference play, while Northwood falls to 2-11 (2-4).
Findlay controlled the opening quarter, scoring six goals to build a comfortable early advantage. Rebecca Chmiel opened the scoring with an unassisted goal before Brooke Hermann added a man-up tally assisted by Cora West. After Northwood's Mairin Ziegler put the visitors on the board, Findlay responded with four unanswered goals. Chmiel netted her second of the day, followed by unassisted goals from West and Hollyn Newport. West added another late goal assisted by Newport to give the Oilers a 6-1 lead at the end of the period.
The Oilers continued to build separation in the second quarter, shutting out Northwood while adding four more goals. Zoe Cuvo struck first with a man-up goal assisted by Chmiel. Natalie Wright, Eloise Kolofer, and Kathryn Martin each followed with unassisted goals to send Findlay into the halftime break with a commanding 10-1 advantage.
Findlay kept the momentum rolling in the third quarter with another 4-0 run. Mylee Cain scored early in the period off an assist from Cuvo, followed by a goal from West. Martin then netted a man-up goal, and Ella Predina capped the quarter with a strike set up by Carrigan McCormack, extending the Findlay lead to 14-1 heading into the final 15 minutes.
The Oilers finished the game strong in the fourth quarter with five more goals. Amelia Dillon and Jamia Cobb scored early in the frame. After Ziegler netted her second goal of the day for Northwood, Findlay closed out the game with goals from Martin and Kaitlin Darby before Cain punctuated the victory with a man-up goal as time expired.
West and Martin led the Findlay offense with four points each, both recording a hat trick with three goals and one assist. Chmiel finished with two goals and an assist, and Cain added two goals. In total, 13 different Oilers scored in the balanced victory.
In goal, Caroline Weber earned the win after allowing just one goal and making two saves in the first half. Josie Owens played the final 30 minutes, recording five saves while also allowing just one goal as the Findlay defense suffocated the Northwood attack.
Findlay wraps up their home slate of games in the regular season with a game on Saturday, April 11 against Thomas More. That contest starts at noon with Senior Day festivities happening beforehand.
