Tiffin, Ohio - The University of Findlay women's lacrosse team battled on the road Wednesday, April 15, pulling away in the second half to secure a 12-8 victory over Tiffin and stay perfect in conference play. The Oilers improve to 9-6 overall with a 7-0 record in conference play, while Tiffin falls to 8-6 (5-2). With one regular-season game remaining, the Oilers have locked up a Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) Tournament bye and will take on Ashland this Saturday, April 18 for the right to host the event as the top seed.
Tiffin controlled the opening quarter, outscoring Findlay 4-2 to build an early advantage. Rebecca Chmiel and Cora West provided the offense for the Oilers in the opening frame, with West netting a man-up goal.
Findlay answered back in the second quarter, finding its rhythm offensively. The Oilers outscored Tiffin 5-3 in the frame, erasing the deficit to send the game into the halftime break tied at 7-7. West led the charge with two goals in the period, while Carrigan McCormack, Natalie Wright, and Chmiel each added a goal to fuel the comeback.
The Oilers took control in the third quarter, shutting out the Tiffin offense while adding a goal of their own. Amelia Dillon broke the tie by netting a free-position goal late in the period, giving Findlay an 8-7 lead heading into the final 15 minutes.
Findlay finished the game strong in the fourth quarter, outscoring the home team 4-1 in the final frame to seal the road victory. Chmiel scored twice in the quarter to pad the lead, while Dillon and Breeann Talabac each found the net to put the game out of reach.
Rebecca Chmiel led the Findlay offense, scoring a game-high four goals. Cora West finished with four points on three goals and one assist, while Amelia Dillon added two goals. Natalie Wright, Breeann Talabac, and Carrigan McCormack each netted one goal in the balanced team effort.
In goal, Caroline Weber earned the win after playing all 60 minutes. Weber recorded nine saves and allowed eight goals, anchoring a Findlay defense that limited Tiffin to just one goal in the entire second half.
