Softball Sweeps Cedarville in Road Doubleheader

Cedarville, Ohio- The University of Findlay softball team earned a pair of road victories over Cedarville on Friday, April 24. The Oilers took game one in an offensive showdown, 8-6, before securing a 1-0 win in a tightly contested defensive battle in game two. With the sweep, Findlay improves to 34-11 overall and 17-5 in Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) play, while Cedarville drops to 17-31 and 9-13 in conference action.

Game One (W 8-6)
Both teams traded runs in the opening inning before the Oilers broke through in the top of the second. A single by sophomore Kenzie Woods drove in a run to give Findlay a 2-1 lead. A wild pitch later brought Woods home, and senior Aurora Lescody, who had reached earlier with a single to center, scored on a Cedarville catcher's error, extending the advantage to 4-1.

The Yellow Jackets cut the deficit to 4-2 in the bottom of the second, but Findlay answered in the top of the fourth, restoring a three-run lead on an RBI single from senior Annika Bredel.

Cedarville surged in the bottom of the sixth, plating four runs on three hits to take a 6-5 lead over the Oilers. Findlay answered in the top of the seventh with a three-run rally. The inning opened with back-to-back walks for the Oilers before senior Kayla Dykin drove in two runs, one coming on a Cedarville error, to put UF ahead 7-6. Kenzie Woods then added a sacrifice fly to score Dykin, extending the lead to 8-6 heading into the final frame.

Looking to secure the final three outs, Findlay issued walks to the first two Cedarville batters before recording the first out. Another walk then loaded the bases, putting the Oilers in a precarious position. However, back-to-back flyouts ended the threat and sealed the victory.

Offensively, the Oilers were paced by Woods, who went 2-for-2 with two RBI and two runs scored. Bredel also delivered a perfect day at the plate, going 3-for-3 with a triple, while adding an RBI and a run scored.

Senior Alexys Antal started in the circle for the Orange and Black, working 5.1 innings while allowing six runs on nine hits. Senior Kayla Dykin earned the win to improve to 9-4, tossing 0.2 scoreless innings without allowing a hit. Senior Kora Navarro closed out the game for the Oilers, recording her first save of the season after not allowing a hit or run.

Game Two (W 1-0)

The game's only run came in the top of the second for the Oilers. Sophomore Kenzie Woods led off the inning with a single to shortstop, and senior Kora Navarro followed with a double to left field that moved Woods to third. Senior Jenna Poulson then singled to third base to drive in Woods, providing the decisive run in the contest.

Senior Annika Bredel continued her strong play, going 3-for-4 at the plate, while Kenzie Woods finished 2-for-3. The duo combined for five of Findlay's nine hits in the game.

Freshman Kaylynn Carter went the distance in the circle for Findlay, tossing seven shutout innings to improve to 7-1 on the season. She allowed just four hits in the outing.

Findlay returns to action to close out the regular season with a doubleheader against Tiffin on Sunday, April 26. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m., with game two set for 3 p.m.
