Painesville, Ohio - The University of Findlay women's lacrosse team delivered a complete performance Friday, April 3, pulling away early and cruising to a 17-5 victory over Lake Erie to stay perfect in conference play. The Oilers are now 6-5 overall with a 4-0 record the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) while Lake Erie falls to 1-11 (0-6 G-MAC).
Findlay controlled the opening quarter from the first draw, scoring four unanswered goals to take a 4-0 lead. Rebecca Chmiel opened the scoring with an unassisted goal before setting up Karissa Allbright and Amelia Dillon at different points in the period. Chmiel added her second goal of the quarter with 5:17 remaining to cap a dominant start.
The Oilers continued to build separation in the second quarter, scoring the first two goals of the frame as Ella Predina and Lauren LaRochelle found the net. After Lake Erie struck twice, Findlay responded with three more goals before halftime, including a second tally from Dillon and late goals by Kathryn Martin and Kaitlin Darby, sending the Oilers into the break with a 9–2 advantage.
Lake Erie opened the third quarter with a man-up goal, but Findlay answered immediately and regained momentum. Carrigan McCormack, Dillon, and Natalie Wright each scored in the period, helping Findlay extend the lead to 12–3 heading into the final 15 minutes.
The Oilers finished the game strong in the fourth quarter with five more goals. Mylee Cain and Dillon scored early in the period before Predina, Cora West, and Jamia Cobb closed out the scoring. Cobb's goal came with five seconds remaining, punctuating a balanced team effort.
Dillon led all players with four goals, while Chmiel finished with five points on two goals and three assists. Predina added two goals, and 12 different Oilers scored in the victory.
In goal, Caroline Weber earned the win after allowing two goals in the first half. Josie Owens played the final 30 minutes and made two saves as the Findlay defense limited Lake Erie to just six shots on goal.
Findlay is back in action on Tuesday, April 7 with a trip to Davenport.
