Findlay Gets Revenge on Tiffin | Advances to Tournament Semifinals

Akron, Ohio- The University of Findlay softball team punched its ticket to the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) Championship semifinal with an 8-5 upset of top-seeded Tiffin. Just four days after a heartbreaking loss to the Dragons, the Oilers, seeded fourth, flipped the script at Firestone Stadium, using a powerful offensive showing to secure the revenge win. With the victory, Findlay moves to 37-12 on the season, while Tiffin drops to 33-13.

The Oilers struck first in the top of the opening inning as senior Alexys Antal led off with a double, followed by a walk from senior Annika Bredel. Sophomore Meghan Heinsman then singled to load the bases, and junior Anna Jones brought home the game's first run with an RBI groundout to give Findlay a 1-0 lead.

Tiffin answered in the bottom of the second with a solo home run before seizing control in the third, using a grand slam to jump ahead 5-1.

After a quiet fourth inning, Findlay erupted for five runs in the fifth to swing the momentum. Senior Kora Navarro and Antal opened the frame with back-to-back singles, and Bredel was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Heinsman drew a bases-loaded walk to make it 5-2, and a throwing error by the shortstop allowed another run to score, cutting the deficit to one. Freshman Sophie Retton delivered a clutch pinch-hit single to right field to tie the game at 5-5, and Jenna Poulson followed with a sacrifice fly to give the Oilers a 6-5 lead.

Findlay added insurance in the sixth when Jones launched a two-run home run to left-center, extending the lead to 8-5—one they would not surrender.

The Oilers return to action Friday, May 1, in the G-MAC Championship semifinal, where they will face third-seeded Ashland at 3pm.
