Mason, Ohio- The University of Findlay baseball team opened play at the 2026 Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) Tournament at Prasco Park in Mason, Ohio. The Oilers, seeded third in the event, faced sixth-seeded Northwood University on Legacy Field, one of two fields within the complex. Despite what the regular-season series might have suggested, Findlay delivered a commanding 11-2 win over the Timberwolves of Midland. The victory marks Findlay's first in the conference tournament since 2024. With the result, the Oilers improve to 33-18 on the season, while Northwood drops to 21-30.
After two and a half innings of scoreless action, Findlay struck first in the bottom of the third. Senior Mike Sciortino doubled to center field, and senior Casey Maruniak followed with a two-run home run to left. The blast marked Maruniak's 200th career hit, making him just the fifth player in program history to reach the milestone, joining Rob Talpas (2001-05), Brian Sampsel (2005-09), Cam Farrar (2020-24), and Aiden Lao (2021-24).
Northwood quickly answered, tying the game at 2-2 in the top of the fourth, but the Oilers responded immediately at the plate. Senior Gavyn Smith opened the inning with a single up the middle, followed by a base hit through the right side from sophomore Mason Myers. After a fielder's choice erased Smith, freshman Drew Tucker delivered a two-run double to left center, putting Findlay back in front 4-2. Sciortino then added a sacrifice fly to extend the lead to 5-2 after four innings.
Findlay continued to add on in the fifth when Smith launched a solo home run to make it 6-2. The Oilers broke the game open in the seventh, scoring five more runs. Senior Luke Senften highlighted the inning with a two-run home run to right field, and Tucker added a two-run double to right center to push the lead to 10-2. Sciortino later capped the scoring with a sacrifice fly to right, sealing the 11-2 victory for Findlay.
Drew Tucker led the offense, finishing with a career-high four RBIs while going 2-for-4 at the plate and scoring two runs. Casey Maruniak, Luke Senften, and Mike Sciortino each drove in two runs, while Gavyn Smith and Mason Myers both tallied three hits. Myers was perfect at the plate, going 3-for-3.
On the mound, senior Carson Mellott earned the win for Findlay, working all nine innings to improve to 7-3 on the season. He allowed just one earned run on five hits while striking out four.
Findlay returns to action on Thursday, May 7, when it faces the winner of game two between (2) Walsh and (7) Hillsdale. First pitch is scheduled for 10 a.m.
