Ashland, Ohio – The University of Findlay volleyball team fell to Ashland University in straight sets on Friday evening, 25-20, 25-21, 27-25, at Kates Gymnasium.
The Oilers battled throughout the match but were unable to overcome the Eagles, who improved to 6-1 overall and 1-0 in Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) play. Findlay dropped to 3-5 overall and begin 0-1 in conference action.
Senior Hannah Miller led the Oilers offensively, recording a match-high 16 kills on 45 attacks while adding nine digs and two blocks.
Grace Auer made her first appearance of the season, directing the Findlay offense with 15 assists. Miya Ellerbrock contributed 10 digs. Abria Lomax added three blocks, and Lauren Foerster and Keira Turek each recorded three kills.
Findlay opened the match with a competitive first set before Ashland pulled away late for a 25-20 victory. The Eagles then took the second set, 25-21, to take a 2-0 lead.
The Oilers came out strong in the third set and pushed Ashland to the limit. Findlay held a lead late in the frame, but the Eagles ultimately secured the set, 27-25, completing the sweep.
Ashland finished the match with a .182 hitting percentage compared to .061 for Findlay. The Eagles also held advantages in kills, 38-31, and digs, 45-35.
The Oilers will return to action on Saturday, September 12 for another road contest at Tiffin. The match is set to begin at 2 pm.
