Oilers Suffer First Loss to Kentucky Wesleyan

Owensboro, KY – The University of Findlay men's soccer team traveled to Owensboro, KY on Saturday, September 12, 2026, to face the Kentucky Wesleyan Panthers in their second conference matchup of the year. After a hard fought match, the Oilers fell just short by a score of 2-1 to hand Findlay its first loss of the season. The Oilers now sit at 4-1-0 (1-1-0). The Panthers move to 2-2-0 (1-1-0).  

The scoring started early when Kentucky Wesleyan found the back of the net in just the 3rd minute of play to give them a 1-0 lead. The Oilers responded halfway through the first 45 minutes with a goal from the left foot of senior Tom Middleham in the 24th minute. The goal was assisted by senior Leo Egerer, his second assist of the season. Middleham's goal would bring him to two goals on the season. 

The score remained tied 1-1 through the first half of play and well into the second half until Kentucky Wesleyan once again found the back of the net with a goal in the 68th minute of play to make the score 2-1. The Oilers would not be able to find an equalizer in the remaining 22 minutes and fell just short with a final score of 2-1.  

An extremely even match saw both teams very close in numerous stat categories, with the Oilers leading overall shots on the day, 12-8. They also lead in corner kicks, 5-2. Senior goalkeeper Ethan Hensley had three saves on the day. 

The Oilers return to play in another road matchup as they take on the Tiffin Dragons on September 17, 2026.
