Box Score The University of Findlay men's basketball team, ranked 23rd in the latest National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) poll, blasted the Lake Superior State University Lakers out of the water in the second half as they rolled to an 80-65 win on Thursday, January 28 in Croy Gymnasium. The victory gives the Oilers a 15-3 record on the year with an 11-2 mark in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC).
Tied 33-33 at the half, the Oilers were looking for a spark and received one as senior guard Marcus Parker, the reigning GLIAC South Division Player of the Week, lit up the scoreboard for 22 points in the final period.
Parker, who finished with a career-high 29 points in the victory, hit 6-of-9 shots from the field, drilled 5-of-7 three pointers and was 12-of-14 from the line in the game. His five triples tied his career best while his 12-of-14 showing from the charity stripe set a new personal record.
Junior guard Nathan Hyde and freshman guard Aaron Robinson also scored in double digits, contributing 12 and 11 points respectively in the win.
As a team, the Oilers shot 45.8 percent (22-of-48) from the field and drilled 9-of-19 (47.4%) shots from three point land. In comparison, the Lakers hit 38.5 percent (20-of-52) of their field goal attempts and 39.3 percent (11-of-28) of their shots from long range.
Findlay also forced 16 turnovers which led to 19 points for the Oilers as they came away with nine steals in the contest.
The Lakers were led by Scott Perkins who scored 27 points. Most of his damage was done from the three point line as he hit 6-of-14 attempts from behind the arc.
The Oilers will be back in action again on Saturday when they host Saginaw Valley State University at 3:00 p.m.
