The University of Findlay track and field team, fresh off a successful day one at the NCAA Division II Indoor Track National Championship, saw nine more athletes compete on Saturday, March 15th at JDL Fast Track in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.
Junior Dillon Webster, who just yesterday became a 2014 All-American with his contribution in the men's distance medley relay, ran in the 800 meter run. He earned another All-American honor with his performance, finishing runner-up with a time of 1:49.72, just .21 behind the leader, Ashland's Drew Windle. For Webster, this was the fourth time in his indoor career he donned All-American honors.
The Oilers received another All-American performance, this time in the men's shot put, from senior Marcus Vicars. He took eighth of 17 competitors with his first attempt, a toss that distanced 56'9.25 ft. This was the second time in Vicars' career he earned indoor All-American in this event.
Findlay's women 4x400 meter relay team, comprised of junior Maud Sanmiquel, freshman Adrianna Powell-Lawrence, junior Shelby Stump, and junior Kirsten Gaerke finished second in their section with a time of 3:49.43, just three hundredths of a second behind the winner of the heat. The time placed them in seventh in the event, earning All-American honors.
In women's shot put, junior Kendra Averesch came through in the clutch as her last throw of the day was her best, earning the now two-time All-American a fourth place finish. The throw measured 51'0.00.
Pam Showman narrowly missed All-American honors as she finished in ninth place in the pentathlon with 3698 points, just four points behind the eighth place finisher. Her best event was in the 800 meter run as she took fourth place with a time of 2:21.67. Her points total set a new Findlay indoor record, beating her own mark set earlier this season.
Junior Demorrio Leggett struggled on the day, despite entering as the seventh seed. He failed to record a distance in the men's triple jump as he went foul, foul, pass on his three attempts.
The Findlay men's team finished ranked eighth in the nation.
After all the events concluded, Findlay had 11 individuals earn All-American honors in 12 events including one national champion, Justin Welch.
