Oilers End Regular Season with Scoring Frenzy at Malone

The University of Findlay men's soccer team defeated the Malone Pioneers on Tuesday, Nov. 2 by a score of 6-0, wrapping up the 2021 regular season. Findlay ends the year with a record of 8-8-1 and 7-6-1 in Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) play while the Pioneers see their season end with a 1-17-0 record with a 1-13-0 mark in the conference. With the win, Findlay has secured the fifth seed in the upcoming G-MAC Championship Tournament.

The Oilers came out swinging in the 5th minute when junior Harrison Szep scored with a well placed header off of a cross from fellow junior Peyton Trask. The Oilers continued their first half scoring when Freshman Christian Palushaj scored in the 33rd minute on another headed effort that beat the Malone keeper from close range. Freshman Maciej Gazynski picked up the assist.

Findlay continued their first half frenzy with another headed goal in the 37th minute when sophomore Mitchell Hanosh put in a well-placed corner and found Maciej Gaszynski to give the Oilers a 3-0 lead and put an exclamation point on the end of the first half.

The Oilers picked up right where they left off to start the second half, with goals by freshman Sammy Linville andsSophomore Zach Lauron in the 50th and 54th minute, respectively. Assisting the goals was Maciej Gazynski, his second of the game, and junior Jared Lepard.

Wrapping up the scoring in the 86th minute for the Oilers was freshman Sammy Linville who gave Findlay its sixth goal of the game, the second-highest scoring game of the season for Findlay who opened the fall campaign with seven goals against Northwood.

Junior Andrew Bolton and freshman Kolton Crouch combined for another shutout for the Oilers, having gathered two saves total in the match to shut down the Pioneers offense.

The Oilers will be in action Saturday, Nov. 6th in the first round of the Great Midwest Athletic Conference Championship Tournament. Findlay will be matched up with the fourth-seeded Walsh Cavaliers. The top two seeds, Lake Erie and Cedarville, have each earned a bye. The other matchup will feature third-seeded Ohio Dominican against the sixth seed, Tiffin. After the first round of games, all remaining teams will gather in Painesville, Ohio where Lake Erie will host the remainder of the tournament.
