Findlay, Ohio- The University of Findlay men's golf team wrapped up play at their home tournament, the annual Doc Spragg Fall Invite at Findlay Country Club on Tuesday, Oct. 17. Unable to catch the leader, the Oilers finished runner-up in the event, posting a team score of 289 (+1) on the final day for a three-round total of 854 (-10), thirteen shots behind #13 Grand Valley State.
Freshman
Colin Schadek led the Oilers this week, playing some of the best golf of his young career. The Liberty Township, Ohio native held the overnight lead after firing a 36-hole total of 138 (-6), ranking fifth in program history. Despite firing another red number today, Schadek would finish runner-up to Grand Valley State's Nick Krueger. Schadek's rounds of 68 (-4), 70 (-2), and 70 (-2) gave him a total score of 208 (-8), the fifth best 54-hole score in program history. With his finsh he earns all-tournament team honors.
Joining him on the all-tournament team was sophomore
Luke Metzger. Metzger fired rounds of 73 (+1) and 68 (-4) yesterday before firing a 69 (-3) today to climb eight spots on the leader board. He finished tied for third, the best finish of his career.
Finishing just outside the top-ten was senior
Donnie Professori. He recorded rounds of 68 (-4), 71 (-1), and 74 (+2) to finish tied for eleventh.
The Oilers also had a "B Team" participating in the event. That team finished in 16th place. They fired rounds of 313 (+25), 306 (+18), 309 (+21) for a 54-hole total of 928 (+64).
Findlay also had three individuals participating in the event.
The Oilers will be back in action as they travel to Farmington, Pa. to host the Nemacolin Intercollegiate on Oct. 23 and Oct. 24.
