Findlay, Ohio- The University of Findlay women's golf team, ranked fifth in the latest Women's Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) Division II rankings, played host to the first day of the William Beall Fall Classic at Findlay Country Club on Monday, Oct. 2. With the temperatures hovering around 87 degrees with minimal wind, and ideal conditions- the Oilers averaged 75.91 on the day, nearly five shots better than the field average of 80.49. The two day, 54-hole event features four nationally ranked teams including the Oilers, #8 Indianapolis, #17 Grand Valley State, and #24 Missouri-St. Louis.
Through 36 holes of play, Findlay is one shot back of Indianapolis after shooting rounds of 296 (+8) and 292 (+4) for a total of 588 (+12).Â
Three Oilers are in the top-five after day one including junior Mary Kelly Mulcahy, freshman Ashleigh Duflo, and senior Gabby Woods. M.K. Mulcahy recorded an opening round of 74 (+2) before recording a 68 (-4) in the second round. She is in third place, just one shot behind the leaders. Her 68 (-4) ties her career low round, which she has now recorded twice, both coming this fall.Â
Duflo found her rhythm for the Oilers today, firing rounds of 73 (+1) and 71 (-1). She is even par for the tournament and currently in fourth place. Meanwhile, Woods is in a tie for fifth at one-over par after recording rounds of 70 (-2) and 75 (+3).
