Men's Golf in 2nd After Day One of Doc Spragg Invite

Findlay, Ohio- The University of Findlay men's golf team played host to the first day of the Doc Spragg Invite at Findlay Country Club on Monday, Oct. 14. With the temperatures hovering around 50 degrees with slight wind- the Oilers averaged 72.1 on the day, nearly two shots better than the field average of 74.72. The two day, 54-hole event features two nationally ranked teams #7 Grand Valley State, #23 University of Missouri- St. Louis, and Palm Beach Atlantic who is currently receiving votes in the Bushnell/Golfweek Division II Coaches Poll.

The Oilers who were in fifth place after a round one score of 288 (E) used a 279 (-9), the lowest round two score of the tournament, to finish day one in second place. Their 26-hole total of 567 (-9) puts them eight shots behind leader, Grand Valley State.

Findlay was led by junior Luke Metzger who is in a tie for sixth place. The Mason, Ohio native recorded rounds of 72 (E) and 69 (-3) for a 36-hole score of 141 (-3). The low 18-hole score of the day for the Orange and Black came from sophomore Jack Gerker with a second round 67 (-5), the fifth best score in program history. He is in a tie for tenth place after an opening round 75 (+3) leaves him at two-under par.

Freshman Cahle Roth and sophomore Colin Schadek are also in a tie for tenth at two-under par.

The Oilers also had a "B Team" and "C Team" competing at the event. The "B Team" is in 17th place while the "C Team" is in ninth.

Findlay will conclude the Doc Spragg tomorrow, Tuesday, Oct. 15 with a shotgun start at 9am.
