Preview: Men's Soccer G-MAC Tournament Final

The Game
The University of Findlay men's soccer team has advanced to the Championship Game of the 2024 Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) Men's Soccer Championship for the first time in program history.The Oilers, seeded second in the event now face the number-five seed, Kentucky Wesleyan College.

The contest, which kicks off at 1:00 pm on Saturday, Nov. 16, will take place at The Paradiso Athletic Fields on the campus of Tiffin University. The final match pits the Oilers against the Panthers. The Oilers and Kentucky Wesleyan have met 13 times in program history, with the Oilers leading the series 10-1-2. This season, the teams split their matchups: Kentucky Wesleyan secured a 2-0 victory in Findlay, while the Oilers responded with a dominant 4-0 win in Owensboro.

Findlay Oilers (10-3-5, 8-2-4 G-MAC) | #2 Seed

The Oilers are 10-3-5 on the season and concluded Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) play with a 8-2-4 mark. They are currently ranked sixth in Super Region III.

Findlay secured a spot in the championship match with a thrilling win over sixth-seeded Thomas More. After a 4-4 tie in regulation and two overtimes, the Oilers advanced on penalty kicks. Read more about the match here.

Findlay enters the final, averaging 2.28 goals per game, the best in the conference. Meanwhile, they hold their opponents to an average of 1.11 goals per contest, ranking second-best in the conference. 

Senior Brendan Ash, a second team all-conference selection, is at the forefront of the Oilers' offensive efforts, leading the Orange and Black with eight goals scored this season. He is averaging .444 goals per contest, the sixth-most in the G-MAC. Sophomore Oliver Lindstrom, who was named first team all-conference, is also an offensive threat from midfield, scoring six goals this year.

Despite injury, senior Maciej Gaszynski has been a strong offensive presence as well, adding five goals this season. Notably, eleven other Oilers have also contributed goals, showcasing a well-balanced offensive effort.

Junior Keegan Grant, the Great Midwest Goalkeeper of the Year, has been a steady presence in goal. The goalkeeper has logged 1,457 minutes in net, holding a 8-3-5 record. He has accumulated 62 saves while allowing just 18 goals for a save percentage of 0.775, the best in the conference.

The Panthers head into the tournament with a 10-5-4 overall record, including a 7-4-3 mark in conference play. This season marks the program's first 10-win campaign since 1991.

Kentucky Wesleyan secured a spot in the finals with a dramatic 3-2 upset over top-seeded Tiffin. With the game tied at 2-2 and less than a minute remaining, senior Adrian Stokke delivered the game-winning goal for KWC with just 33 seconds left on the clock. Read more about the game here.

Kentucky Wesleyan enters the tournament averaging 1.47 goals per game while allowing opponents 1.21 goals per game.

Senior Calum Newson, a second-team all-conference honoree, leads the offense with eight goals, while freshman Callum Nolan has added five. Senior Jacob Boling has been a key playmaker, leading the team with seven assists. Notably, six other Panthers have also found the back of the net this season.

In goal for KWC, is sophomore Soufian Khaloufi who has recorded over 1,600 minutes in goal. He has allowed 21 goals in 18 games, recording a save percentage of 0.709.
