The Game
The University of Findlay women's volleyball team has advanced to the semifinals of the 2024 Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) Women's Volleyball Championship. This marks their fourth trip to G-MAC Semifinals. The fourth-seeded Oilers will now face the top seed, Hillsdale College.
The contest, which will take place at 5:00 pm on Friday, Nov. 22, will take place in Dawn Tibbetts Potter Arena on the campus of Hillsdale College. The semifinal match will mark the third time the two teams have met this season. Since 2005, the teams have faced off 42 times, with Hillsdale holding a 31-11 advantage in the all-time series. However, Findlay has shown resilience in recent matchups, winning back-to-back contests in 2023.
Their most recent matchup took place at Hillsdale on Saturday, Nov. 9, where Hillsdale secured a 3-0 victory. Read more about that match here.

Findlay Oilers (19-8, 11-4 G-MAC) | #4 Seed
2024 Findlay Volleyball Coaching Staff
After keeping their season alive by defeating the Yellow Jackets in the quarterfinal, Findlay has recorded 20-wins, giving the Oilers back-to-back 20-win campaigns for the first time since 2017-18. UF, who is ranked eighth in the NCAA Midwest Regional Rankings, hold a 20-8 (.714) record while concluding league play with a 11-4 (.733) mark.
The Oilers lead the conference in kills, averaging 14.15 per match, which ranks 13th nationally in Division II. They also hold the top spot in the conference for hitting percentage at .262. This season, Findlay has delivered three matches with a hitting percentage of .400 or higher.
Offensively, UF is led by sophomore Hannah Miller. The six-rotation outside hitter is a versatile force for the Orange and Black. This season, she has tallied 380 kills, averaging 3.80 per set, the third-most in the league. The Tiffin, Ohio native also contributes 2.27 digs per set and stands out as Findlay's top serve receiver.
The junior duo of Alana Pohlman and Kenzie Hoelscher continues to dominate at the net. Pohlman averages 2.91 kills per set and leads the team with 0.83 blocks per set. Hoelscher, a first team all-conference selection last season, holds the league's second-best hitting percentage at .367, contributing 2.65 kills per set. She's also a serving powerhouse, tallying 52 aces this season at a rate of 0.52 per set.
Junior Emma White, a two-time first team all-conference honoree, remains at the forefront of the Oilers offense. The setter is attaining an average of 11.45 assists per set, the top figure in the conference. She has amassed 1,145 assists this season, the 12th most in Division II.
Under the leadership of head coach Wick Colchagoff, Findlay has yet to secure a conference tournament championship. However, in 2017, the Oilers achieved the status of Co-West Division G-MAC Regular Season Champions. Prior to that, they claimed the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) South regular season title seven times.
About the Opponent – Hillsdale Chargers (22-3, 14-1 G-MAC) | #1 Seed
2024 Hillsdale Volleyball Coaching Staff
The Chargers enter the match with a 22-3 (.880) record after sweeping Tiffin in the G-MAC Quarterfinals. Ranked fourth in the regional rankings, they concluded their season with a 14-1 (.933) mark in conference play, ultimately earning the North Division regular season title. Hillsdale has won seven straight Great Midwest Tournament titles, six on their home floor, and have never lost a G-MAC Tournament match since joining the conference in 2017.
Hillsdale stands out as one of the most disciplined teams in the conference, ranking second with a .252 hitting percentage while holding opponents to just .161. Their 13.58 kills per set are the second-best in the conference, trailing only Findlay.
Senior all-American, Marilyn Popplewell leads the charge for the team, showcasing her dominance as an outside hitter. She ranks fourth in the conference in kills per set with an impressive 3.80 and has accumulated 334 kills so far this season. She also holds the program's single-match records for both kills and digs.
Hillsdale has another strong veteran in the middle in senior Maizie Brown, the 2023 G-MAC Tournament MVP and a four-time all-G-MAC player who's back for a fifth season. Along with those two veteran stalwarts, outside hitters Marcelina Gorny and Greta Wise and middles Sydney Sahr and Adi Sysum give Hillsdale plenty of talented options up front.
Directing the attack for the third straight season is senior setter and two-time all-conference honoree Lauren Passaglia. The talented left-hander's hitting chops and versatility allow Hillsdale to flow freely into a variety of offensive sets and make the Chargers difficult to defend. Junior Josie TeSlaa also plays setter for Hillsdale and can play at the same time as Passaglia, giving the Chargers an impressive array of options when the ball is on their side of the court. A group of talented freshmen that includes four gifted attacking players improve Hillsdale's depth even further.
