Painesville, Ohio - The University of Findlay wrestling team concluded the regular season on Saturday, Feb. 17 with a dual at #8 Lake Erie College. The Roughnecks came up shy in that event by a score of 36-14.
Findlay's first points of the night came at 133 pounds when senior
Gavin Ritter dominated Brenden Hamilton, earning a tech fall victory, 15-0. A first period takedown got him started and, after an escape to begin the second period, Ritter notched another takedown to earn a 7-0 lead. He then registered a pair of near falls, wrapping up the shutout victory.
Another win came for the Roughnecks at 165 pounds where senior
Logan Sanom won by a narrow 2-1 margin against Thomas Poter. The bout was knotted up at 0-0 through one period before Potter record an escape in the second. Sanom tied the match with an escape in the beginning of the third period and, a penalty on Lake Erie's Potter then gave Sanom a 2-1 lead, one he would not relinquish.
The last win of the evening came at heavyweight where sophomoreÂ
Giulian Bodiu picked up a win by fall in the final period. The bout was tied at four early in the final period but, with less than a minute remaining, Bodiu scored a takedown that ultimately led to a pin.
Findlay now turns its' attention to the NCAA DII Super Regional which will be held on Saturday, March 2 in West Liberty, WV.
