Richmond, Ky. - Hosting one of the best Division II tournaments in the country this week, the fourth-ranked University of Findlay women's golf team came home as champions of the Findlay Spring Invite which was held in central Kentucky. The two-day tournament concluded on Tuesday, March 19 and was held at Boone's Trace National Golf Club. The Oilers won with a team score of 889 (+25) to edge out Indianapolis by one. Ranked teams in the tournament included #6 Anderson, #7 Indianapolis, and #17 Limestone. This is their first win since September when they won the DBU Women's Classic and is their third win of the 2023-2024 season.
Proving why she is the top-ranked golfer in Division II was junior Mary Kelly Mulcahy. After holding the overnight lead, Mulcahy finished the tournament at one-under par. Her rounds of 73 (+1), 67 (-5), and 75 (+3) edged out the competition giving her the three-shot victory. After the completion of round two today, Mulcahy's 36-hole score of 140 (-4) is the second best in program history just one shy of former standout Makenzie Torres who recorded a 139 (-1) at the Dayton Invite in 2018. The win is the seventh of Mulcahy's career, officially making her the winningest UF women's golfer in the NCAA era.Â
Senior Gabby Woods also had a top-five finish as she concluded the tournament at five-over par. She carded rounds of 76 (+4), 67 (-5), and 78 (+6) to finish third. That is Woods' best finish since she finished as the national runner-up at the 2023 NCAA Division II National Championship.
Mulcahy's and Woods' 67s (-5) in round two are the second best 18-hole score in program history. Woods currently holds the record at 66 (-5) which she set at the Bobby Nichols Intercollegiate on March 13, 2023. The pair are just the fourth and fifth players to record a 67 (-5).
Sophomore Hayley Dye finished tied for ninth at ten-over par, recording rounds of 74 (+2), 77 (+5), and 75 (+3).
