Homer, Ga. – The University of Findlay women's golf team picked up another win on Tuesday, April 9 at the North Georgia Bracket Challenge which was played at the 6,107 yard, par 72, Chimney Oaks Golf Club. The tournament was played in bracket format, utilizing medal match play. The medal match play format consists of five matchups as players go head-to-head. The winner of a match is determined by total strokes and the team that wins at least three matches, declared the winner.
The event featured four teams ranked in the top-25 in the Division II Clippd rankings including #3 Findlay, #15 Lee, #18 Grand Valley State, and #24 North Georgia.
In the final round, the Oilers were matched up against Lee University with the tournament title on the line. Findlay earned the win in dominating fashion, winning all five matches, defending their title from the same tournament last season. This is the fifth win for the Oilers this season.
On Tuesday, the Oilers put together a team score of 294 (+6), finishing the event with an 870 (+6). That score was 23 shots better than Lee University, which finished as the tournament runner-up.
The individual leaderboard saw a familiar face at the top as junior Mary Kelly Mulcahy, ranked #1 in the country, earned her eighth-career win and fifth of the season by shooting a final-round 70 (-2) for a 54-hole score of 211 (-5). That win puts her back ahead of teammate Gabby Woods for the most in the NCAA era of the program.
Finishing as the runner-up on the leaderboard is a seven-time winner in her career at UF, senior Gabby Woods. Woods wrapped up her second round with a 67 (-5) and finished the event with a final round 71 (-1). Her 54-hole score of 213 (-3) left her two shots behind M. Mulcahy.
Another round in the 60s came in the conclusion of the second semifinal where sophomore Hayley Dye who posted a 69 (-3) to win her match.
Findlay has just one more regular season tournament remaining. That even is the UMSL Ladies Spring Invite which will be played on April 14-15 in St. Louis, Missouri.
