Carmel, Ind.- The University of Findlay women's golf team is currently in first place at the NCAA Division II East Regional, which wrapped up day one today, May 6. The event is being held at the 6,061, par 72, Prairie View Golf Club. They recorded an opening round 299 (+11) and are leading by one over Indianapolis.
Leading the Oilers on day one was senior Gabby Woods and junior Erin Mulcahy. The pair recorded a score of 74 (+2) on the day. They are in a tie for fifth. Woods opened her round, getting to two-under through three before playing the final six at four-over par. Meanwhile, E. Mulcahy recorded three birdies on her round, two on the front nine and one on the back.
Junior standout Mary Kelly Mulcahy is in a tie for eighth after an opening round 75 (+3). She recorded five bogeys but finished strong, playing her last two holes at two-under par. Sophomore Hayley Dye finished right behind her with a 76 (+4) and is tied for eleventh. Dye recorded a front nine 40 (+4) but played her final nine holes at even par.
Rounding out Findlay's lineup is freshman Ashleigh Duflo who is in a tie for 27th after an opening round of 79 (+7).
The Oilers, who are currently ranked third in the latest WGCA national poll, aim to defend their title after securing consecutive wins in 2022 and 2023. They will continue play tomorrow, May 7 with the final round to follow on May 8. The top five teams will then advance to the NCAA Division II National Championship which will be hosted in Winter Garden, Fla. on May 21-25.
