Springboro, Ohio – The University of Findlay men's golf team began play at the Wright State Invitational on Sunday, April 13, a Division I tournament playing host to 12 teams. Through two rounds of play, the Oilers are in fourth place after rounds of 284 (E) and 280 (-4), giving them a total of 564 (-4). UF sits just seven shots behind the Day 1 leader, Wright State University. The event is being played at Heatherwoode Golf Club which is a Par 71 being played at 6,754 yards this week.
The Oilers were led by an incredible performance by freshman Cahle Roth who nearly posted his name at the top of the record books with his Round Two performance. Roth opened the day with a 73 (+2) but came back with a bogey-free 64 (-7). That effort has him into second place on the individual leaderboard at -5, four shots back of the tournament leader. That score of 64 is tied for the second-best 18-hole score in program history while his score of 137 is tied for fourth-best.
Also playing some quality golf on Sunday was junior Luke Metzger. In Round One, Metzger made four birdies and a pair of eagles on his way to a 67 (-4). A second-round score of 72 (+1) has him in a tie for third at three-under. His score of 139 through two rounds is tied for sixth-best in program history while his 67 in the opening round is tied for fifth-best.
The tournament will conclude tomorrow, April 14.
