Florence, Ind.- The University of Findlay men's golf team is currently in first place at the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) Championship, which wrapped up day one Monday, April 21. The event is being held at the 6,872 yard, par 71, Belterra Golf Club. The Oilers recorded the lowest round of the morning with a 283 (-1) before closing the day with a 302 (+18). They are 17-over par, fifteen shots clear of Ohio Dominican who is in second.
Leading the Oilers is sophomore Colin Schadek. The all-conference selection from last season, is in second place at one-over par. He recorded rounds of 72 (+1) and 71 (E) and is two shots behind the leader, Liam Harvey of Tiffin who is one-under par.
Freshman standout Cahle Roth is in third at four-over par after carding rounds of 71 (E) and 75 (+4). Junior Luke Metzger is tied for seventh at seven-over par with rounds of 70 (-1) and 79 (+8).
Findlay will close out stroke play tomorrow morning and are in a solid position to make the medal match play portion of the event. This format, introduced in the G-MAC tournament three years ago, sends the top two teams from stroke play into a head-to-head battle. Medal match play involves players from each team competing directly against each other, with each match earning a point and the first team to reach three points securing the tournament title.
The Oilers will be back in action for the final round tomorrow with tee times starting at 7:30 am.
