Findlay Sweeps Heidelberg in 'Spike Night' Fundraiser

Box Score Tiffin, Ohio- The University of Findlay volleyball team, ranked 23rd in the latest American Volleyball Coaches Association(AVCA) National Poll, was scheduled to compete in an historical outdoor match on Monday, Sep. 22, but inclement weather forced the event indoors. The Oilers faced off against the Heidelberg University Student Princes—an NCAA Division III institution located in Tiffin, Ohio— inside Seiberling Gymnasium as part of "Spike Night Under the Lights," an event benefiting Financial Aid for Cancer Treatment (FACT) of Seneca County. Playing in the third and final match of the evening, the Oilers closed out the night with a 3-0 (25-16, 25-18, 25-21) victory.

The Oilers controlled the opening set from the first serve, never falling behind. A 7-3 run pushed their lead to 16-10, and they maintained the momentum from there. Allowing just six more points, Findlay cruised to a 25-16 victory in the first frame.

In the second frame, the Student Prince kept the contest much tighter, holding a 12-11 advantage midway in the set. However, a quick three-point surge from the Oilers put them ahead 14-12. From there, Findlay took control, closing out the set on a strong note by scoring 14 of the final 20 points to secure a 25-18 win. The momentum stayed with Findlay as they went on to win the final set with relative ease.

Findlay posted a .315 hitting percentage in the match, highlighted by a match-best .342 in the first set. Heidelberg finished strong with a .216 hitting percentage in the third set, but struggled earlier, hitting below .150 in both the first and second sets.

Leading the Oilers was senior Lauren Foerster and junior Hannah Miller. The duo recorded 12 kills apiece while both hitting an impressive .440. Miller, daughter of Heidelberg head coach Jason Miller, also added ten digs.

Senior Makenna Belcher and junior Abria Lomax both added nine kills. Senior Emma White continues to run an efficient offense, recording 39 assists on the night.

Defensively, sophomore Grace Auer led the way with 11 digs. She also recorded two service aces.

Findlay returns to action on the road as they resume Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) play with a match up against the Ohio Dominican Panthers. First serve is scheduled for 6 pm.
