Gambier, Ohio- The University of Findlay swimming team was at the Kenyon Fast Chance Meet on Saturday, Feb. 21 in one final attempt to improve times for next month's NCAA Division II National Championship. These "last chance" meets, held after conference championships, are designed to give swimmers and relays that are teetering on the edge of NCAA qualification one last shot at a season-best time to improve their selection odds.
Notable Results
Men
- Camilo Marrugo (Sr.) placed first in the 50 Free with a time of 19.64, meeting the NCAA B Standard, and also won the 100 Fly in 46.31, another NCAA B Standard mark. He finished second in the 100 IM with a time of 49.17, a new program record, and later recorded a 19.70 in the 50 Free time trial, also meeting the NCAA B Standard.
- Juan Blandon Torres (Fr.) finished third in the 50 Free with a time of 20.28, meeting the NCAA B Standard, and captured first place in the 200 Fly with a time of 1:47.8, also an NCAA B Standard. He additionally recorded a time of 48.07 in the 100 Fly time trial, meeting the NCAA B Standard.
- Randy Keener (Sr.) was part of the first-place 200 Medley Relay team that finished in 1:32.63 and also placed third in the 100 IM with a time of 50.80.
- Arnaldo Guimaraes (So.) helped the 200 Medley Relay team to a first-place finish in 1:32.63, won the 100 Breast in 54.92 to meet the NCAA B Standard, and also took first in the 200 Breast with a time of 2:01.28.
- Edu Trejos (So.) contributed to the first-place 200 Medley Relay finish in 1:32.63, placed fifth in the 100 Breast with a time of 55.71, and finished fourth in the 200 Breast in 2:02.93.
- Camdyn Sever (Fr.) was also a member of the first-place 200 Medley Relay team that finished in 1:32.63.
- Nick Beratz (Fr.) won the 200 Free with a time of 1:38.98, meeting the NCAA B Standard, and later placed third in the 100 Free in 45.55.
- Matteo Filippi (Sr.) captured first place in the 1650 Free with a time of 15:29.20, meeting the NCAA B Standard.
- Sebastian Camacho (Fr.) recorded a program record and NCAA B Standard in the 1000 Free with a time of 8:59.39.
- Santiago Arteaga (Jr.) finished second in the 100 Free with a time of 45.06, meeting the NCAA B Standard.
- Sebastian Washington (Jr.) placed fourth in the 100 Free with a time of 45.63.
Women
- Troie Grubbs (Sr.) won the 50 Free with a time of 23.37, meeting the NCAA B Standard, and also helped the 400 Medley Relay team to a first-place finish in 4:01.19.
- Helmi Käkelä (Fr.) placed fourth in the 50 Free with a time of 24.07 and later captured first place in the 100 Free in 52.59.
- Olivia Scheibelhoffer (So.) was part of the second-place 200 Free Relay team that finished in 1:35.27 and also won the 100 IM with a time of 59.50, a new program record.
- Faith Marsicek (Sr.) helped the 200 Free Relay team to a second-place finish in 1:35.27, was a member of the first-place 400 Medley Relay team that finished in 4:01.19, and also placed fourth in the 100 Free with a time of 53.49.
- Anabelle Smith (Jr.) contributed to the second-place 200 Free Relay finish in 1:35.27 and placed third in the 100 Free with a time of 53.31.
- Hannah Nagel (Fr.) was also part of the second-place 200 Free Relay team that finished in 1:35.27.
- Macee Reckard (Sr.) was a member of the first-place 400 Medley Relay team that finished in 4:01.19.
- Alex DeCarlo (Fr.) helped the 400 Medley Relay team to a first-place finish in 4:01.19 and also placed fifth in the 200 Fly with a time of 2:10.11.
- Katie Susi (Sr.) finished third in the 100 IM with a time of 1:01.16.
Findlay now turns its attention to the NCAA Division II Swimming & Diving Championships selection announcement, set for Wednesday, Feb. 25. The championship field is limited to 175 men (157 swimmers and 18 divers) and 205 women (183 swimmers and 22 divers).
