Big Rapids, Mich. – The University of Findlay men's golf team opened up play at the NCAA DII Central/Midwest Regional which is being hosted by Ferris State University at Katke Golf Course in Big Rapids. Through 18 holes of play the Oilers are sitting in a tie for 11th after a round of 299 (+11). Winona State leads the way at 284 (-4) and No. 4 Grand Valley State, the highest ranked team in the field, is just two shots back at 286 (-2). Other ranked teams in the field include No. 7 Central Oklahoma, and No. 19 Harding.
The three-round event kicked off on Thursday, May 7 a Katke, a course that is playing 6,967 yards this week and is a Par 72.
Junior Colin Schadek is T12 and paced the Oilers through the first round. He went out in 33, making birdie on holes 4, 7, and 9, but shot 39 on the back to finish in 72 (E).
In a tie for 29th, senior Luke Metzger posted a 74 (+2) while senior Zach Miller shot 76 (+4) and is in a tie for 51st.
Rounding out Findlay's countable scores is sophomore Cahle Rothe who is T63. He birdied his final hole to shoot 77 (+5) to open his tournament.
Freshman Ross Dietz is T103 and had a round of 82 (+10) on Thursday.
The second round is set to begin tomorrow, May 8, at 10 am with Findlay's first player off being Dietz. The Oilers will all tee off on the first hole.
