Indianapolis, Ind. – The University of Findlay men's and women's track and field teams continued competition at the NCAA Division II National Championship which is being held at the Fall Creek Pavilion as part of the NCAA II Festival in Indianapolis, Ind. Friday, March 14 was the second of three days full of events.
Findlay's top performer of the day was sophomore Leyton Nossa who was taking on the nation's best in the men's weight throw for the first time in his career. His third attempt of the event was a throw of 19.73m (65'5") that put him in eighth place and onto the podium, earning first team all-American status. He is the first male at Findlay to earn first team all-American in weight throw since Sterling Mungro in 2021 when he won the national title. It is the 12th time the Oilers have had an athlete earn all-American in the event.
The Oilers earned a pair of second team all-Americans in the women's 200m dash as senior Jordan Taylor and sophomore Leah Smith finished 10th and 11th, respectively. Running in the same heat, Taylor and Smith had times of 23.91 and 23.94, each finishing less than a tenth of a second outside of the top eight.
Senior Simon Derstine ran in the men's 800m and finished with a time of 1:54.59 which placed him in 18th while the women's distance medley relay team of Hailey Wilson, Taylor Ivory, Bailey Chenevey, and Ava Beam ran a 12:02.19 and took 12th.
