Newport News, Va. – The University of Findlay men's and women's track and field teams, despite competing the last two days at the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) Championship in Ashland, sent six athletes to Newport News, Virginia on Sunday, March 2 for the CNU Qualifier in a last-ditch effort to earn higher marks. The event was hosted by Division III Christopher Newport University.
In women's pole vault, freshman Colleen Steinmetz and sophomore Victoria Harvey finished first and second, respectively, against three competitors from CNU. Steinmetz reached a height of 3.78m (12'4.75"), a tenth of a meter lower than she went just yesterday at the G-MAC meet, but still good enough to meet the NCAA DII provisional mark. Harvey reached a height of 3.68m (12'00.75"), a tenth of a meter better than yesterday's mark but not quite enough to reach the NCAA provisional.
Senior Brooke Coulter, who finished sixth in the G-MAC Championship yesterday, won with a throw of 13.39m (43'11.25"), one-hundredth of a meter further than her best yesterday. That throw was just under three-tenths of a meter shy of the provisional mark.
In men's pole vault, sophomore Nate Buschur set a personal-best with a height of 5.10m (16'8.75") which meets the NCAA DII provisional mark and is 13th in DII this year.
Senior Hunter Tresnan-Rieghard competed in the shot put and set a PR with a toss of 16.83m (55'02.75"), good enough for the NCAA provisional and 26th in the country this season.
In weight throw, senior Collin Warner went almost a full meter further than his effort at the G-MAC Championship, winning the even with a toss of 19.00m (62'04.00"), meeting the NCAA provisional. It was not a season-best, however as Warner still sits in 20th in DII after his effort last week at the Flag City Tune Up.
