North Canton, Ohio – The University of Findlay women's tennis team, ranked No. 8 in the country in the latest International Tennis Association (ITA) DII poll, opened up Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) play on Friday, March 21 against Walsh University. Despite some close matches, the Oilers came away with a 7-0 victory, the team's fifth in a row.
Findlay won the doubles point and pulled ahead 2-0 after a win at fourth-singles from
Valentina Salek.
Polina Zaytseva lost her first set at second singles, but rallied to win the final two sets 6-1, 6-3.
Similarly,
Anamarija Kovacevic, ranked 17
th in DII in singles, lost her first set at first singles. She won 6-4 in the second, but found herself trailing 5-3 in the third. Kovacevic would fight off a pair of match points, ultimately coming back to win the final set 7-5, clinching the win for the Oilers.
