Oilers Conclude Day Two of Outdoor National Championships, Set for Final Day Saturday

Pueblo, Colo.- The University of Findlay track and field teams competed on the second day of the NCAA Division II Outdoor National Championship, currently underway at the ThunderBowl on the campus of Colorado State University-Pueblo. The second day of the three day championship took place on Friday, May 23.

Friday- Day Two Preliminary Events
  • Leah Smith (So.)- Competing in the second heat of the 200m dash, Smith finished third with a time of 23.33, narrowly missing a spot in Saturday's finals. Although both Smith and the runner-up recorded identical times, the second-place finisher was awarded the automatic qualifying spot by a hundredth of a second. She placed 11th overall, just one position shy of advancing to the finals.
  • Jordan Taylor (Sr.)- Seeded fifth in the 200m dash, Taylor competed in the third heat, ultimately finishing fifth. With the top two in each heat automatically making it to the finals, Taylor's time would need to qualify in the top nine, however that mark of 23.62 was not quite enough as she would place 13th.
  • Women's 4x400m Relay- Taylor Ivory (Sr.), Jordan Taylor (Sr.), Mary Ellis (So.), and Kylie Ray (Sr.) teamed up in the 4x400 where they were ranked third in the country. The squad finished with a program record time of 3:37.01 which was good for eighth and a spot in Saturday's finals.
The Oilers will return to competition on Saturday, May 24, for the final day of the NCAA Division II Outdoor National Championship. Colleen Steinmetz (Fr.) is set to compete in the pole vault, while Eyan Wilson (Jr.) will represent the team in the shot put. Leah Smith (So.) will race in the 100m dash, and Kylie Ray (Sr.) will take on the 400m hurdles. The day will conclude with the women's 4x400m relay team competing in their event.
