Track and Field Splits for Two Meets on Friday

Ann Arbor, Mich., Berea, Ohio- The University of Findlay track and field team split into two groups to compete on Friday, May 9. The first group traveled to Berea, Ohio to compete in the Harrison Dillard Twilight Meet hosted by Baldwin Wallace University. The second group traveled to Ann Arbor, Mich. To compete in the Len Paddock Open hosted by the University of Michigan. After a long day of competition, the Oilers recorded several top finishes.  

Top Results 

Harrison Dillard Twilight Meet 

Men: 

  • Benjamin Hall (Fr.) took seventh in the steeplechase with a time of 9:20.64.
  • Simon Derstine (Sr.) ran a 3:46.19 in the 1500m which is an NCAA provisional mark and a new program record, breaking his former mark he set just two days prior.

Women: 

  • In the 1500m run, Bailey Chenevey (Sr.) took ninth with a time of 4:38.42.
  • Hailey Wilson (Sr.) took fourth in the 5000m run with a time of 17:16.92.

Len Paddock Open 

Men: 

  • Sherron Jones (Jr.) finished seventh in the 200m dash with a time of 21.20.  
  • Kage Hefner (Fr.) finished second in pole vault with a height of 5.06m, meeting the NCAA Provisional Standard.  
  • The 4x100m relay team consisting of Stephen Powell (Sr.), KJ Upshaw (Jr.), Hassan Sesay (Sr.), and Sherron Jones (Jr.) claimed second place with a time of 40.46 meeting the NCAA Provisional Standard.  

Women: 

  • Leah Smith (So.) finished third in the 400m dash with a time of 54.66. Jordan Taylor (Sr.) took fifth with a time of 55.28. Both Smith and Taylor met the NCAA Provisional Standard with their times. Mary Ellis (So.) claimed sixth with a time of 55.96, and Taylor Ivory (Sr.) grabbed seventh with a time of 56.10.  
  • Kylie Ray (Sr.) won the 400m hurdles with a time of 58.08 breaking her previous school record of 58.11. Zanri Black (Fr.) would take third with a time of 1:01.66. Both Ray and Black would meet the NCAA Provisional Standard with their times. 
  • Tru Buddenberg (So.) finished sixth in pole vault with a height of 3.82m meeting the NCAA Provisional Standard. 
  • Jessica Hoban (Sr.) finished fourth in the triple jump with a mark of 11.24m. 
  • The 4x100m relay team consisting of Taylor Ivory (Sr.), Leah Smith (So.), Kylie Ray (Sr.), and Jordan Taylor (Sr.) won with a time of 45.01 meeting the NCAA Provisional Standard.  

The Oilers will be back in action Sunday May 11 as they travel to Allendale, Mich. to compete in the GVSU Last Chance Meet.
