Westlake, Ohio - The University of Findlay athletic department has finished 10th nationally out of 304 Division II schools in the 2024-25 Learfield | IMG College Directors' Cup standings which was announced on Tuesday, June 10. This is the highest finish in the history of Findlay athletics, topping the previous mark of 17th which had been achieved in both 2012 and 2018. Findlay, which scored 621.25 points this year, is one of just two schools in the top-ten with an enrollment of 5,000 students or less, joining Wingate which finished runner-up. Points are awarded based on each institution's finish in Division II competition. Teams must make NCAA postseason play to be awarded points.
The University of Findlay sponsors a total of 22 teams and of those, 13 earned trips to the NCAA postseason, the most in the history of the department. During 2024-25, UF's top team finisher was women's golf which finished tied for fifth. Women's swimming & diving was the only other team to finish inside the top ten in the country, taking ninth.
"Finishing tenth in the Learfield Cup Standings out of over 300 NCAA Division II institutions is a tremendous accomplishment and a true testament to the hard work and dedication of everyone involved in Findlay athletics", said Director of Athletics
Jim Givens.
"Finishing in the top ten for the first time ever reflects not only the talent and commitment of our student-ahletes, but also the unwavering support of our coaching staffs, athletic trainers, faculty, administration, and the entire Findlay community. It's a source of immense pride to see our entire department consistently perform at such a high level across all sports, showcasing the excellence we all strive for."
In the fall iteration of the standings, the Oilers ranked 19th with both volleyball and men's soccer making runs to the Sweet 16 of their respective national tournaments. Men's cross country also scored big points, making a trip to the national championship meet for the first time in program history.
The winter season saw a jump to 13th in the country as indoor track & field sent 17 athletes and swimming sent 16 athletes to their national championships.
Findlay's biggest push came in the spring, vaulting the Oilers up into the top-ten. Men's golf, softball, and women's tennis each made trips to NCAA regional competitions while outdoor track & field and women's golf advanced to national championships.
Ashland University, which finished runner-up to Findlay in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) Presidents' Cup standings, was the only other top-20 team from the league in the Learfield Cup Standings, finishing seven spots behind UF at 17th. Tiffin University finished 45th.
Every year since 1995, the Learfield Sports Directors' Cup has been awarded to the year's best athletic institution and with 304 schools vying for position, a top finish requires success across all competing teams.
