Findlay, Ohio – The NCAA announced its' selections for participation in the 2024 Division II Indoor Track and Field Championship on Tuesday, Feb. 27. The University of Findlay women's track and field team, ranked 14
th in Division II, will send eight athletes to the event while the men's team will be sending four. Findlay's total of 12 indoor national qualifiers is the most since 2017 while the eight women who will be attending make for the most female qualifiers for the NCAA indoor meet in program history.
On the women's side,
Trista Fintel is the defending national champion in the shot put and enters the meet ranked second in the country in the event. Her best mark of the year came at the Jud Logan "Light Giver" Invitational in the beginning of February where she recorded a toss of 16.08m, a personal-best. Fintel will also compete in the weight throw where she is ranked 13
th in the country. She will be alongside her teammate
Paige Emnett who will make a push for a national title of her own as she enters the weight throw ranked fifth in the country, recording a career-best 19.09m throw just 12 days ago.
In the pole vault, freshman
Victoria Harvey will be getting her first taste of the national stage as she enters the event ranked seventh in the country. Her best height was a 4.05m effort back in January. Joining her is
Lindsey Kluesener who is no stranger to the championship level and is now a national qualifier for the seventh time in her career. She is ranked 11
th in the event with a season-best height of 4.00m.
The final four athletes competing will represent the Oilers in the 4x400m relay as the quartet of
Jordan Taylor,
Kylie Ray,
Mary Ellis, and
Taylor Ivory enter ranked 13
th in the country. Their best time of the year came at the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) Championship, a time of 3:44.62. Along with the 4x400,
Jordan Taylor also qualified as an individual in the 200m dash. She is ranked 13
th in DII with a 24.01 which she recorded at the G-MAC Championship.
For the men, the top mark of the year belongs to
Josh Verhoff who is a two-time all-American in the 200m dash. This year Verhoff is ranked third in Division II in the event and enters with a season-best time of 21.07. He also qualified in the 60m dash where he is ranked 13
th with a time of 6.72 which he recorded at the G-MAC Championship last week.
Staying on the track,
Jordan Foster will compete in the one mile run where he is ranked 19
th in the country. His best effort this season came back in the beginning of February when he recorded a time of 4:03.79 at the Boston University Valentine Invitational.
Findlay will also send a pair of pole vaulters as
Alex Mutchler and
Conner Douglass each earned the right to compete. Mutchler is ranked 10
th in the country while Douglass, who will be at the event for the first time, is ranked 12
th.
