Mark Massie was a baseball player who was gifted with a strong arm, foot speed, and the ability to hit for both power and a high average. He roamed the spacious center field position at Findlay College for three seasons, influencing the outcomes of games both offensively and defensively. During his three years of baseball at Findlay, Massie was a National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics First Team District 22 selection in 1981 and 1982, and an All-Area IV selection in ’82. Massie belted eight home runs in 1982, a record which he still shares with several other Oilers, and 14 for his career plus a .511 slugging percentage. Also, a threat on the bases, Massie stole 42 bases, currently third in the Findlay record book. His depth of talent landed him an invitation to try out with the U.S. Pan American Baseball Team in 1983, making it to the final roster cut. Massie credits athletics for teaching him “the importance of teamwork, working together for a common goal, leadership and building lasting friendships.” Massie has been employed as a Department of Defense civilian for more than 25 years and has been awarded numerous performance awards, including civilian of the Quarter Awards, the Professionalism in Contracting for Supervisors Award and the Exemplary Civilian Service Award. Massive has coached youth baseball, basketball and football for the YMCA, Catholic Youth Organization. Pop Warner and Amateur Athletic Union for more than 10 years. Massie and his wife, Lorraine, currently reside in San Antonio, Texas, with their sons, Troy and Kyle.
