Martin (Marty) Parrill came to Findlay College after a successful high school career at Springfield Catholic Central. While in high school, he helped lead his legion team to Ohio State Tournament Title and was named the MVP. Marty came to Findlay College as a dual sport athlete in Baseball and Basketball, but it was on the baseball diamond that he left his mark. He was a four-year starter at Shortstop and Third Base for Hall of Fame Coach, Homer Shadle. He helped lead his team to three NAIA Mid-Ohio Conference Titles and led the Oilers in several categories throughout his career, including Batting Average, RBI’s, Slugging Percentage, and Home Runs. After graduating from Findlay college in 1973 with his Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry, Marty was selected in the 18th round of the baseball draft by the Baltimore Orioles. He had a very productive professional career that lasted from 1973-78. During those six years, Marty would move all the way up to the AAA level, but the presence of Baseball Hall of Famer – Brooks Robinson kept him from advancing further. He was near the top of several offensive categories during his career in the minor leagues. In 1976, he received the AA League MVP award for his outstanding season. Martin and his wife Dana currently reside in Oceanside, California and he is retired. They have two children, Brooke and Bryan. He is retired after working in the building supply industry for many years.
